It's a boy!

Okay, the vote is in. It is a guy.

Now, what type of guy?
Absentminded
Shaggie
Athletic
Recluse
Outspoken
Super Meticulous

What appeals to you?

  1. I vote for glasses. I love any man with glasses.

  2. How about just reading glasses. That gives him two different looks.

Recluse could be fun - if you come up with an interesting twist on why (interesting, not creepy).
    Absentminded - meh.
    Shaggie - nope.
Athletic - nope...but not a wimp either - fit without extreme workout routines. Bicycling and canoeing (there's upper and lower body workouts...and they are both very 'Oregon')
Outspoken - could come off like a jerk.
Super Meticulous - wait, wasn't that Monk?

  3. Definately reading glasses!
I like the idea of him inheriting Powells and not liking the customer service part. He creates an office in the rare books section that is rarely visited. It has the best views and library ladders and deep used couches and chairs from like the 70's.
Debbie had the idea of weird (skymall) type toys or gadgets.
I thought maybe he could be super anal about people moving his books... He could be working on a project.

What does a guy like this wear? Think unique.

  4. Ooo oo! X is an outdoorsy hiking type of guy who has worked as a stock boy for years to fund his hobbies. The Old Man (owner of Powells) dies suspiciously. He had also been helping the cops solve cases. The Old Man was the one with the office in 'Rare Books' and the crazy gadgets.
Because X has stocked so long... he hates people moving the books and also knows where everything is.
His hiking friend works as an accountant and is pretty conservative. He hates liberals and likes swerving into the bike lane and taunting the liberals by chopping off limbs of his trees. He is the one that sorts through the files and finds out that the bookstore is about to go under.

    Yes? No?

  5. You could have a couple of quirky employees thrown in - a fellow stock boy and a woman - maybe she works at the reference desk. Have her be a little curmudgeonly - ala Kathy Bates.

  6. Have you seen Kathy Bates on The Office? She has a Southern accent that's hilarious.

  7. I have seen her in the Office. I love the idea of her and another clerk. Maybe someone who takes everything a little too seriously or an overly perky girl, but why is he the one left the store? Is the owner's grandson?

I like the thought of Kathy Bates not listening to anything he says.
